JOB DESCRIPTION: Implement skilled nursing care to specific students based on the Individual Health Care Plan developed by the School Nurse. Maintain a safe environment for these students to function and learn. To assist with other duties as needed including but not limited to district events and classroom personal care support. Follow Special Education operating guidelines, district and campus policies and procedures.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provide safe environment for students. Initiate emergency care when necessary to staff and students 2. Collaborate with the School Nurse, special education staff regarding the health related IEP items 3. Notify school nurse if student has an accident and becomes ill 4. Provide skilled nursing care as directed by the Student Care Plan 5. Administer and document medications according to district policy and procedure 6. Accurate and timely documentation of student health care as specified by district policy 7. SHARS documentation 8. Assist in all areas as requested by Special Education staff and School Nurse 9. Maintain neat and orderly work area 10. Discuss all concerns and needs of student with School Nurse prior to any action or decision 11. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students and parents 12. Other duties as assigned 13. Maintain CPR/AED Certification (may be done with School Nurse) 14. Maintain Licensure requirements 15. Model behavior and written/verbal communication that is professional, ethical and responsible 16. Follow attendance and punctuality rules 17. Maintain confidentiality of information
EXPERIENCE: Two years experience
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification High School Diploma or GED Certificate Registered LVN-LPN with current Texas License CPR/AED Certification
Special Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of First Aid skills Safe medication administration and documentation Good communication skills Ability to work with children with disabilities
