Works with campus and departmental leadership at the three high schools to support CTE staff members in the transformation of teaching and learning processes from the classroom to the jobsite as well as promote the educational and career development of individual students across all 27 CTE Programs of Study offered in Tomball ISD.  Identifies and secures opportunities for students to apply their technical skills in an industry setting via an internship, apprenticeship, or job shadow in alignment with their personal career goals and strengths. Develops and maintains all work-based learning documentation required by the Texas Education Agency and ensures that appropriate record-keeping procedures are in place at all high school campuses. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification Options:

  • Bachelor's degree      
  • Valid teaching certificate in any CTE discipline or valid counseling certificate
  •       Three years of relevant work experience within the last ten years (military service can substitute for years of relevant work experience)
  • CDL Driver's License (preferred)

Experience:

  • At least three years of successful CTE classroom teaching and/or counseling experience in any discipline. 
  • Three (3) years in industry/business experience (preferred)

 



BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Prepare students to participate in work-based learning as an extension of their demonstrated knowledge and technical skills in alignment with their personal career goals, strengths, and IEPs, if applicable.
  • Recruit, screen, and train local employers to host student interns, ensure collection/accuracy of timesheets, provide timely response to any workplace issues or concerns.
  • Maintain a rapport with community, advisory board, and industry mentors to secure solid partnerships for student and program success.
  • Develop industry-standard training for students prior to their participation in an off-campus work-based learning experience. 
  • Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students, business/community partners, and district personnel; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
  • Facilitate professional workshops that help students prepare for their on-the-job experiences and connect them with further career exploration, post-secondary programs, and other opportunities.
  • Assist students in job placement activities such as completing applications, employment letters, and identifying employment opportunities through leadership training.
  • Coordinate with school administrators, faculty, and counseling staff to ensure that students successfully participate in the work-based learning program.
  • Communicate with parents, as necessary, to support the program and employer’s work with students.
  • Maintain accurate data, records, and files to track activities, achievements, participation, progress, and status of individual students.
  • Promote and coordinate Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs); assist teachers in the implementation & promotion of new CTSOs and Chapters.
  • Maintain By-Laws, Constitutions, and forms for CTSOs; coordinate CTSO travel, activities and events; maintain calendar of CTSO events and fund-raising activities.
  • Assist with the coordination of career-related presentations by representatives from business and industry, and postsecondary education programs.
  • Participate in and facilitate professional development activities that are aligned with department and campus goals, assigned areas of responsibility and the varied needs of students.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records required by TEA and the district; file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of CTSO development and management
  • Skill in mentoring students while engaged in work-based experiences
  • Ability to organize complex tasks and events
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a busy work environment







QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:  

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid Texas teacher certificate
  • CDL Driver’s License (preferred)

 

Experience:  

  • Three (3) successful years of teaching in CTE
  • Three (3) years in industry/business experience (preferred)
