PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide leadership and coordination for staff working with Multilingual students in all core content areas ensuring high quality PK-2 programming, curriculum & instruction, and parent involvement/training. This programming includes ESL and Bilingual/Two Way Dual Language programs. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Master’s degree from accredited university

Bilingual Certification Required

ESL Certification Required

 Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation

Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness

Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners

Ability to interpret data

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Bilingual and Biliterate in English and Spanish

 Experience:

Five years of experience as a classroom teacher in a Bilingual classroom

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Instructional Management

  1. Assist Director of Multilingual Programs in all aspects of dual language, bilingual, and ESL program implementation.
  2. Support dual language, bilingual, and ESL classroom teachers working with multilingual students’ unique instructional needs.
  3. Collaborate with schools to support teachers in delivering model lessons for students having different levels of English proficiency, inclusive of the Collaborative Teaching Model and incorporating both the English language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and the Proficiency Level Descriptors (PLDs).
  4. Coach other district-level Content Specialists working with multilingual students.
  5. Coordinate the ordering and use of departmental instructional aids and materials for assigned content areas.
  1. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness for the assigned content area.

 

Staff Development

  1. Assist teachers working with ELs to incorporate individualized and small group English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction.
  2. Provide in-district workshops and professional development such as SIOP/ELPS training for staff.
  3. Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments on the state and national levels in area assigned.
  4. Plan and provide staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff in designated content.
  5. Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and assistance to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation.
  6. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in classroom.

 

Family Engagement

Assist department staff in implementation of a Family Engagement Plan to nurture and develop family and community partnerships.

 

 

Other

  1. Assist in communicating information to parent and community members about school programs.
  2. Use effective communication skills in English and Spanish to present information accurately and clearly.
  3. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.
  4. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
