Substitute Expectations:

Substitute candidates must possess effective communication and technology skills. Clear verbal and written communication in English, regular use of phones, and computer proficiency with email and Internet are essential during the application process, when accepting substitute assignments, and for future success in classroom environments.  Please consider these expectations before applying.

 

Professional Substitute (Teacher):

Requires 60 or more college hours verified via an official college transcript.

Paraprofessional Substitute (Instructional Aide):

Requires 48 or more college hours verified via an official college transcript.

Application Requirements:

In order to be employed as a district substitute, the following application requirements must first be met.  Please read and carefully consider your willingness to complete these steps before applying.

 

Stage One:

 

1)  Successful completion of TISD's online substitute application and digital interview.

 

2)  Evidence of required college hours via an official transcript, either attached to your online application or provided directly to Human Talent.

 

3)  Clear background check (conducted electronically at the time of application).

 

4)  Receipt of three professional references (requested electronically at the time of application).

 

5)  Satisfactory completion of a personal interview/technology assessment with Human Talent may be required to evaluate communication/technology skills.

 

Candidates will be notified via email if they have been selected to advance to Stage Two. Further instructions will be provided for the following:

 

6)  Either successful completion of TISD's fingerprinting procedure ($47 fee) or evidence of prior fingerprinting by the Texas Education Agency.  Other agency fingerprints may not be used, i.e. child care facilities, concealed handgun license, real estate license.

 

7)  Either successful completion of Region 4's online substitute training course ($25 fee) or evidence of 2 or more of the last 5 years of full-time employment as a certified teacher in Texas via an official service record.

 

8)  Completion of New Substitute Paperwork and review of Substitute Handbook.

 

9)  Attendance at Substitute Orientation, including presentation of acceptable forms of ID for the I-9/Employment Eligibility Form, photo for ID badge, participation in district training, and submission of annual benefits elections.

 

Individuals who complete Stage Two will receive a substitute ID badge and online access to the Absence Management system to begin fulfilling assignments.
