Primary Purpose:

Perform routine carpet care and hard floor care procedures necessary to maintain the District's standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency of building operations.

 

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED Six months in carpet and hard floor care.

 

Knowledge and skills:

Knowledge of basic techniques of floor machines, chemicals and floor surfaces

Demonstrate the ability to properly operate floor equipment and lift heavy equipment Knowledge of hard floor and carpet care

Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. without assistance

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

Maintain a program of preventive maintenance on carpets/hard floors to ensure the safety and health of students and staff.

Repair damaged carpet as necessary.

Strip, scrub or re-coat hard surface floors.

Prepare a scheduled floor program calendar on a monthly basis.

Advise Energy Manager as to when to schedule A/C or heating as needed for drying floors.

Inform warehouse supervisor of any equipment needs or repairs.

Assist Supervisor in testing and evaluating carpet care and floor care chemicals.

Assist Supervisor in cleaning buildings as needed.

Inspect custodial machines and equipment for safety and efficiency; observe and inform Supervisor of safety hazards; follow all safety codes and standards.

Provide flexibility for emergency work situations, i.e., natural disasters, water damage, theft or vandalism.

Demonstrate a positive attitude, flexibility, and be willing to perform any additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor of Custodial Services or designee.

 

Working Conditions:

Strenuous walking, standing and/or climbing; heavy lifting and/or carrying; pushing, reaching, kneeling, repeated bending and stooping. Work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; excessive humidity; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders; work alone, work with others, and wear a safety belt.
